Laura Gray has been teaching piano in Harriston for over 25 years. She studied with Debra Wanless, and after completing the Grade 10 piano practical and written requirements, Laura attended Brock University. Laura graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance with piano pedagogy and literature courses. Laura returned to Harriston and opened her piano studio.
At a young age, Laura knew she wanted to be a piano teacher. Through many years of music studies, Laura's teaching philosophy developed to "never stop learning". As an experienced teacher she completed an Associate Diploma in Piano Pedagogy with Canadian National Conservatory of Music (CNCM), and was appointed to the Board of Examiners for Piano. Laura is a trained and experienced teacher of the Music for Young Children TM program. Most recently Laura updated her education by completing the credits for the Primary-Elementary Pedagogy Diploma with CNCM.
Laura is an active member of the Hanover-Walkerton ORMTA Branch, where she has served as Branch Treasurer, Branch Archivist, and Branch President. She was honoured to join ORMTA Provincial Council as the North-Central Zone Rep, and was elected as Provincial President from 2020-2022. Laura joined the Board of Directors for the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers' Associations, and held the National Presidency from 2021-2024. She currently serves on the Board as Past President and is active on several committees which gives her the opportunity to connect with music teachers across Canada and beyond. Laura enjoys exploring ways to enrich private music education for teachers and students from coast to coast to coast.
Laura lives on a farm outside of Harriston with her husband, and their son and daughter. She works as a full-time musician, teaching piano in her home studio and as a church organist. She has also served her local community of music teachers as the volunteer convener of the Palmerston Canada Music Week Festival since 1999. She has enjoyed volunteering in her community at the Minto Dance Academy, the Grey-Wellington Theatre Guild, and Minto-Clifford Public School, and singing in community choirs. Laura is available for in-person and on-line piano lessons through the school year, and piano or organ accompaniment for your special occasion.
In her spare time Laura enjoys playing the piano, curling, swimming, hiking, reading, and yoga.
