Laura's Music Studio is full of creative and fun learning concepts. In person and online lessons are available.
Her teaching philosophy provides a music education that combines current composers' works and a focus on Canadian content with rich traditional music, as well as developing musicianship skills that will last a lifetime. She uses games to enhance learning, and creative assignments to explore individuality. Students may choose a recreational or an exam focus at any time because holistic lessons and musical enjoyment are key factors in every lesson. Laura's studio features acoustic and digital pianos, as well as the use of many rhythm instruments, games and manipulatives for technique building and music concept reinforcement, technology, and more. The studio is located in her home, with a separate entrance, and allows room for parents to come and observe, as well as space for group lesson activities. Annual spring recitals are held in Harriston, giving each student a chance to participate in performing for friends and family members. Other performance opportunities occur throughout the year in the form of group master classes, video performances, local venues and community events, Palmerston Canada Music Week Festival, Mid-Western Ontario Rotary Music Festival, Provincial and National Competitions through ORMTA and CFMTA, and more. |
Solidifying ConceptsChildren learn through play, and Laura's lessons incorporate ways to get off the piano bench and reinforce concepts of note reading, rhythms, and listening skills.
